Scholarships for Student Presenters
 

The conference organizers for the WAPOR Regional Seminar in Hong Kong has a limited amount of funds to support deserving students who want to attend and present their papers in the conference to be held on 8-10 December 2005 at the University of Hong Kong. Students will be chosen by the conference organizers to receive the awards based on a review of the student's essay (as described below), a letter of recommendation, and a brief resume. All full-time registered undergraduate and postgraduate students are eligible to apply.
 
The students will receive:
  • Waiver of the conference registration fee (includes reception fee, conference-related meals and conference materials);
  • Up to HK$1000 accommodation subsidy.
 
Applicants for the scholarships must be:
  • Enrolled as a full-time student in a relevant discipline in year 2005;
  • A presenter during the conference*;
  • Conversant in English.
 
Applications for the scholarship program should be submitted online by clicking here, and the letter of recommendation should be sent to Ms Kitty Chan either by FAX (+852) 2517-6951 or by POST addressed to The Public Opinion Programme, Rm 804 Meng Wah Complex, The University of Hong Kong, Pokfulam, Hong Kong on or before 10 October 2005. All submissions should be written in English.
 
In the online form, you have to fill in:
  • Your personal particulars;
  • A 500-word essay describing the applicant's research/academic background and reasons for wanting to attend the WAPOR conference, focusing on the usefulness of the conference to the applicant's current research or studies;
  • Details of your referee, the referee should be a faculty member, work, supervisor, or other person knowledgeable about the applicant's achievement and interest in relevant discipline. Submission of the application without a recommendation letter would not be considered by the scholarships selection panel;
  • A brief resume of the applicant.
 
Results will be announced on 30 October 2005 the latest. Applicants will be notified if their application is successful by email. THERE IS NO NEED TO INCLUDE THE CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FORM IN THE APPLICATION.
 
* If you have not submitted your paper title, abstract or proposal to the conference, please do this together with this application; otherwise your application will not be considered.
